To make sure my hair was going to look fabulous for this holiday season, I recently had it cut at a cute little Tribeca salon. My hairdresser, Shannon, was running a very effective T3 Tourmaline 1" Flat Iron (that straightens and curls) through my hair when all of a sudden I got a static attack. My hair was standing up in every direction despite her diligent attempts to flatten it down (how embarrassing). It wasn't until a few good sprays from a Static Guard aerosol that my strands were finally able to calm down.
"That always works," she laughed. I began to tell her how static always seems to haunt me throughout the winter months, giving me little zaps every time I take off a coat or a scarf. Luckily for me she was very knowledgeable about the subject and gave me some great tips.
Basically, the static comes from our hair getting dried out from the winter elements. Even just going in and out of stores, from the freezing outdoor air to overly heated rooms and back, can be very damaging. She told me I should be using a deep conditioning treatment once a week and to look for a sulfate-free shampoo. (Sodium and ammonium lauryl sulfates are cheap cleaning agents that are used in most shampoos to dissolve dirt and oil. These chemicals tend to dry out hair, strip it of its natural oils and shine, and create frizz.)
Here are some examples of sulfate-free products for you to try (hint: baby shampoos are usually sulfate-free so that they don't sting the eyes). But it couldn't hurt to keep a can of Static Guard around in case of a beauty emergency.

The treatment sounded alluring initially - until I discovered the main ingredient was nightingale droppings.

As much as your friends and family may love you, someone is guaranteed to strike out in the gift department every year. Crazy Santa-themed socks? Strangely colored lipstick? It's all been done before (and will be again), so we thought we'd let our gripes out in public.
In the comments below, list the worst present you received this year (add a link to a photo or info on where it can be purchased, if you know). We'll give you guys a week to compete and then pick a winner next Friday. To make up for your awful holiday, the winner will receive a box of goodies from the SheFinds beauty closet.
